TORN BETWEEN BLAMING EMPLOYERS/RECRUITERS FOR FAILED JOB SEARCH VS PAYING A PROFESSIONAL TO WRITE YOUR CV?
As I undertake my day-to-day activities, I come across people who are against having someone do a CV on your behalf. If you dig deep, the same people will associate many interview failures with employers’ or recruiters’ biasness or mask corruption on their face. But the truth of the matter is that most, if not all, recruiters are very fair when it comes to skills and talent search; as none of us wants to be found incompetent at the services we are tasked at.
As many may be against outsourcing the tasks of CV writing, there are a few fine details that a professional is able to verse out which may not be so obvious to a job seeker.
Here are some facts that you need to know before BLAMING recruiters/ employers for your failed job search and also BEFORE PAYING someone to write your CV
- GET A PROFESSIONAL’S AFFIRMATION- In everything we set ourselves to do, we always feel good and safe when we have our coaches together with us. Don’t we? A practical example is when we are undertaking physical games and assessments with competitors at the presence of our team/game masters. The same case applies to Professional CV writers.
A professional is likely to help you answer questions which you may not ordinarily think about by yourself. And just because they can, they go an extra mile to guiding you through the review. This in return gives you a fulfilling experience and builds on your confidence as you prepare to send your CV.
This also opens a door for you to ask nerve-racking questions as you prepare for future interviews.
- SOME OF US DON’T KNOW THE KEY AREAS IN A CV– Just because we were taught the basics on CV presentation in our 8-4-4, it does not give you the lime light to believing that you know-it-all. We are in a dynamic world where all things keep gradually changing and we therefore must keep ourselves up to the task.
Many of us send CVs for jobs that we have qualified but recruiters seem not to notice our skills and input. For a fact, Recruiters receive thousands of CVs in a day, of which 90% of them are poorly formatted. This makes it difficult for a recruiter to find one qualified candidate in an entire database of CVs to invite for an interview and therefore, they end up re-advertising the vacancy with a hope to receive better CVs in the next lot.
- NOT EVERYONE IS A GOOD WRITER- Some people do not have the skill to write captivating material just because this skill is more or less a talent. One requires to have a high concentration span, set quality time to think through and also to use the modern day technology. These three blended together will give you a quality output. Unfortunately, blending the three is a misery to some of us; If you can, then, good for you.
To decide your potential and suitability for a particular position, your CV must be presented. If you think the above is too much work, then the only solution is to outsource the task; to either a professional or to an amateur. I will not choose an amateur; Will you?
- FEAR TO BRAG YOUR QUALIFICATIONS OUT IS PLANNING TO FAIL– People will often tell you that when a professional writes your CV it will present you to be a braggart to the interviewing panel. Take this one from a recruiter, “To impress recruiters and to get through the interview, a job seeker MUST BE READY to brag or to blow their own trumpet about their skills, competencies and achievements.” Unfortunately, this is an area where most people are afraid of. If you cannot brag, it will cost you! Pay someone else to do the bragging for you!
- YOU ARE NOT A RECRUITER/EMPLOYER– Since you are just a candidate, you do not have any control of the recruiting and hiring process, and that is for a fact. Therefore, do not chest-thump that you possess the skills. You have the qualifications and the recruiters have a checklist that they use to sample out the CVs. If your CV therefore does not match or your skills and achievements do not match with what recruiters are looking for, then, you will fail.
Imagine the different outcome if a recruiter is to write your CV? Is it not appealing already? I am sure you can already visualise the highlighting being done: ‘what recruiters are looking for the opening that you are targeting.’
- YOUR BEST IS NOT NECESSARILY THE RECRUITERS BEST-Finally but not the least, your best may not be the recruiters best and therefore, it is always good to have another person counter check our work before we hand it over. I am sure, we have done this before submitting important projects, assignments and text messages. Why can’t we do the same with our CVs? Just to be sure that we are good at our presentation.
There are mistakes that we make unknowingly that end up distorting the entire meaning of the information that we were to relay. You therefore must not pay someone to write your CV but make sure you get a second opinion of your work from a professional.
