This is a very good venture for business. All you need to do is to have the basics of running this kind of a venture. Many people who have gone through the introductory process have made it big in this venture.
There’s basically no difference between going for a bale or selecting. The starting and running process determines the discipline of the young venture.
Whether you have opted to go for the bale or select few pieces to start with, you need to know that pricing is the key thing in this business.

Let’s use a ladies cotton tops for our case study.
Say your bale cost you kshs. 8,000 and delivery cost was around kshs 1,000. With 200pcs inside.
The problem most of aspiring business persons make is dividing the cost of the bale by number of pcs inside which will be approximately kshs 40 shillings per pc. Then what follows, you tag your pcs at kshs 100.
Your customers will select the best pcs and leave the rest. In fact, they’ll knock at your door every morning asking if there is any new stock.
Here is the correct way to go about this venture.
1. Know how many torn pieces are in the bale and how many pieces are available. Say the bale had 200 pcs, and you have 50 torn pcs… These are rejects, you can’t sell them at all at all at all.
2. Sort the pieces with regards to quality… Here you can have three categories. From the 150 remaining pcs
3. From the three quantities, now give price tags. For instance, the first 30 pcs are very smart, seams , quality tag that heap 300 shillings per pc
300*30=9,000
This heap has already given you your money back
4. The second heap is the second in quality. Say you have selected 40pcs in this order.
These heap you can retail at 200 shillings per pc
200*40=8,000
Here now you can order a bale as you give the remaining pcs on offer but still maintaining the quality preferences principle.
5. Third heap, depending on quality, retail at 100/150 shillings…. Make the most out of this heap. Say 50 pcs that will give you an average of Kshs 5,000-7,500.
You will find yourself remaining with around 30 pcs, these ones you can fagia or place them on offer of about 50 shillings each that’s 1,500 shillings.
The total proceeds from the bale will be kshs. 23,500
Deduct your stock amount 9,000, business rent say 6,000 na ujilipe kitu kidogo as you build your business.
